History of the New Hope Valley: The history of the New Hope Valley is often little known to anyone having moved to the Triangle area in the past thirty years. Since the building of Jordan Dam in the 1970s, few realize three towns, twenty-five miles of railroad right-of-way, and some of the best farmland in the state are all impounded beneath the waters of Jordan Lake. Many will not realize the bridging of New Hope Creek in 1754 opened the way to greater settlement of the western part of the state, nor will they know how close the University of North Carolina (UNC) came to be located in the valley rather than at Chapel Hill, Virtually no one knows the depth of the lake was determined by the location of a grave occupied by a cousin of Thomas Jefferson. Mr. Crowley is an expert in the history of this area, recognized as such by many local historical groups and the Federation of North Carolina Historical Societies (FNCHS), a part of the North Carolina Department of Cultural Resources.  Bob Crowley - 919-349-3557 - Crowley3@MindSpring,com

Marketing a Volunteer Nonprofit Organization: Anyone in business at a managerial level will have at least a basic idea of how to market a commercial enterprise at least in their current industry group, but how does the marketing of a nonprofit organization, operated with volunteer management and labor, differ from this? How do the rules of the US Internal Revenue Service (IRS) affect the way management techniques beyond merely taxes affect what can be done? Can a nonprofit have a paid staff or pay Board members for work done on association projects? How does a manager motivate volunteers able to quit with impunity? Mr. Crowley has been directly involved in the management of this type of organization for the last forty years, and can bring his expertise to the table as a presentation to groups seeking to improve their knowledge and efficiency.  Bob Crowley - 919-349-3557 - Crowley3@MindSpring,comcom
